3D printing is a versatile tool that can help you in many ways. Firstly, it can be used to create prototypes and provide quick and cheap design. In addition, it gives you the opportunity to test different design options before moving forward with production. Perhaps you are thinking of showing your colleagues in the workplace an improvement proposal or solution but are finding it difficult to sell the improvement proposal. In this case, a physical prototype can actually be the perfect option to make others understand what you want to achieve. 3D Printing Sweden is a technology that uses a digital model to create a physical object by building up the material layer by layer.
We use FDM technology to print your design. Read more about FDM here!

How to order a 3D print
Order your 3D print by following the steps below:
- Click on ”UPLOAD MODEL” and select the file that is your model. The file must be in stl, stp, step, obj, igs or iges format. Our calculation tool can process these file formats.
- Rotate and scale, if desired. It doesn't matter how the model is rotated, as the tool only counts the material in the model and bases the cost on this. Likewise, you don't need to worry about support material; we'll take care of that. Finally, select the unit of measurement you used to design the model (mm/in).
- Select the material and click on ”NEXT”. You can read about the material properties by hovering over the material (on desktop) or clicking on it (mobile/tablet). Finally, you can also read more in-depth about materials in our article ”All about 3D printing” if you want to know more.
- Select the fill you want and click on ”NEXT”.
- Enter the number of prints you want to order and click ”Add to cart”
Materials for 3D printing / 3D printing
3D printing can use a wide range of materials, including plastics, metals, wood, ceramics and even biological materials such as cells and tissues. Most commercial 3D printers use plastic materials such as ABS and PLA, which are the two most common plastic materials for 3D printing. When choosing the material for your specific project, it is important to consider how the object will be used. When ordering from us, you can choose between basic materials, such as PLA, ABS and PETG, and high-performance materials such as carbon fibre reinforced PETG. To choose the right material for your model, you can read about their properties in our article ”All about 3D printing”.

Filling in 3D printing
The inner structure is called infill and is created when a 3D model is printed to reinforce and support the outer layers of the model and reduce the amount of material used in the prints. 20% is usually enough to get a robust model. Below you can see a model with 100%, 50% and 80% filler.

Things to consider when exporting STL and OBJ files from CAD programs
Many people miss an important detail when exporting their STL/OBJ file from the CAD program. It is about setting the tolerance of the file. Normally, CAD programs have a default resolution that minimizes the size of the file. The problem with a lower resolution is that the model can have sharp edges, especially in radii, which negatively affects the surface of the final print. A concrete example of this phenomenon is shown in the image below. To be brief, the CAD program NX calls this setting ”chordal tolerance” and it appears when exporting the model as an STL/OBJ file. Adjusting this simple setting can make a significant difference to your finished model!

Find 3D designs to print online
Makerworld is a website where anyone can share digital designs online in STL file format. It is free to upload and download files from the website. It is a collection for makers, hobbyists and DIY enthusiasts to share and discover 3D printable objects and projects. This is also a perfect option for those who lack a 3D printer and design knowledge. You can easily download the STL file you want and upload it to RPS to calculate the cost of the print. Then you can easily order a 3D print without owning your own 3D printer. After payment, we print the model and send it to you. Quick response, great help with modifying the 3D file, and good advice on print exhibitions. Very fine print quality, a single millimeter-deep pit on the surface measuring 5x20mm, otherwise perfect. The product was to be puttied and lacquered, which I had specified, so no problem.
Correct dimensions, haven't measured for tolerance but no problems for me (car product, wind deflector Mazda MX-5.
ASA-CF was very stiff. Lightweight despite the 100% filler. It sanded well with 40g grit without turning into a mushy mess. It wears down the cutting edges of metal tools (scrapers, in my case) pretty quickly.
